A lot of this depends on what your ball flight is. I have been a teaching pro for many years now and I’ve found two products that seem to help a lot.One is for people who hook the ball (ball moves from right to left for a right handed player), it is the medicus. Most people who hook the ball take the golf club “inside” on the backswing and have the club face closed (pointing at the ground instead of in front of them when the club is first parallel to the ground), this aid helps both of those problems. If you hit a slice, you should get the Inside Approach. It is by far the best training aid I’ve seen. A slice (left to right ball flight for right handers) is caused by coming “over the top”. Easiest way to find out if this is the aid for you is your divots! If your divots point left of your target (for a right hander) as about 95% of the people I gave golf lessons too do, than you have an “outside to in” swing, causing the ball to spin that direction and slice. Lessons will be needed to help you know HOW to come from the inside. And on lessons, a little piece of advice, if the instructor tells you what NOT to do, and doesn’t tell you what TO do, then shake his hand and walk away. You can get your buddies on the course to tell you what NOT to do, it’s a good teaching pro that can tell you what TO do. Hope this helps! Good luck and have fun!
The best result for you to improve would be to start taking lessons from a swing trainer. They will help you a ton. More than any swing aid will.
I like the medicus (the one with the hinges in the shaft)
It really helped me learn to swing smoothly and on plane
It is frustrating to use at first though.
I also use a weighted club – but I bet that “Speed Stik” would work about the same.
Also, spend at LEAST half your practice time on short game – chipping, pitching and putting. It really really is the quickest way to improve your score. (But a little tedious to practice)
Just for reference. I was a 19 handicap 3 years ago. Now I’m a 9
Try something similar to a Leadbetter “Swing Link”. Devices of this sort promote a connected swing and a melding of your arm swing and body turn. Pick one up on eBay for less than the link below but that will give you the idea. http://www.golfcow.com/golf/catalog/trai…
game improvement comes with lessons from a teaching pro and practice. Although some of the swing aids can be utilized in a total training regimine. The lessons are the most critical. Hey….The folks that play on TV on Sunday have coaches….why not you?
I’ve had very good luck with the Momentus. The package I bought had the club and a instructional DVD. I definitely saw improvement in my game.
